"Advancing Trends in Dental Hygiene” (2 CEU’s)
Course Description: The U.S. healthcare delivery system is in transition and oral health care services are also changing to meet the needs of the public.  More and more dental hygienists across the country are being employed in multidisciplinary and large-group dental and medical practices, as well as a variety of non-traditional community settings.
 
This course delves into the new skill sets, educational requirements and various state practice acts that are changing the shape of the future of dental hygiene practice.
 
“General Supervision in GA; The New Standard of Care" (1 CEU)
Course Description: In 2018, HB 154 became law. This legislative measure authorizes GA supervising dentists to delegate their dental hygienists to provide preventive dental services under their general supervision. This course reviews the processes, protocols and the “how to's” necessary to comply with the law
.

Suzanne Newkirk, RDH
Ms. Newkirk received her dental hygiene degree from the University of Alaska, Anchorage. She is a published author, professional speaker and dental hygiene leader. 
Suzanne is a professional member of the American Dental Hygienists' Association and has served at the local, state and national level, recently serving as an ADHA Delegate, GDHA Past President, and GDHA Advocacy Committee Chair.

Mr. Clifton Bush

Mr. Bush is the Chief Operating Officer for Albany Area Primary Health Care, Inc., a FQHC, where he oversees the day to day operations of the organization in Southwest Georgia, with 27 locations which include 8 School Based Health Centers.

Clifton developed and started the first School Based Health Center in the Dougherty County School System at Turner Elementary School.

He is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Albany,, the United Way Board and Dougherty County Chamber of Commerce Board and  National Network of Oral Health Access Board just to name a few.

Mr. Bush will be presenting "Dental Hygienists in Safety Net Settings and the Role of the Dental Team in Integration into Primary Care" (2CEU)


Course Description: Dental Hygienists have been given guidelines to be able to practice under general supervision of a dentist. This course will provide an overview of the guidelines for Dental Hygienists practicing under general supervision in a safety net setting. This course will also describe the role of the dental team in the integration of oral care within the primary care team and how the usage of quality metrics can improve the overall care of patients. 

Learning Objectives Include:

  • Guidelines for general supervision of Dental Hygienists in safety net settings.

  • What is primary care and oral health integration?

  • How to setup integration of care and obtain "buy-in" from the primary care team.

  • The role the Registered Dental Hygienist play's in education within the primary care setting.

  • What quality metrics are tracked between the primary care and oral health team.
