Subject and Speakers: Cindy Green, DMD and Jack Griffeth, MD will present a program on Oral Cancer. Dr. Griffeth is a radiation oncologist who collaborates with Dr Green as they assess, diagnose, and treat their mutual patients with oral cancer. They will be presenting cases that they have worked on together, and giving dental professionals more tools to help us as we see patients that could have this potentially life-threatening disease.

Speakers and Subject: Peggy Hamlin, Proctor and Gamble, will present a program entitled:  “Evidence Based Dentistry”. Our colleagues at P & G always provide attendees with generous samples of Crest/Oral B products. In addition to this program, Nancy Goodwin will present a presentation developed for the Georgia Dental Hygienists’ Association entitled “Dental Hygienists and Access to Care”.

Subject and Speaker: “So you want to be a Periodontal Therapist”, Lynne Slim, RDH, BSDH, MSDH, is an award-winning writer who has published extensively in dental/dental hygiene journals. Lynne is the CEO of Perio C Dent, a dental practice management company that specializes in the incorporation of conservative periodontal therapy into the hygiene department of dental practices. Lynne is also the owner and moderator of the periotherapist yahoo group: www.yahoogroups.com/group/periotherapist. Thursday, February 17, 2011:  Teenagers-What Their Mouths are telling you but they’re not:  Practical Information on Teen Health Issues

Time: 6pm

Place: TBA

Speaker and Subject: Tracey Jacobs, BSDH, RDH, Manager of South Professional Education and representative for Health and Wellness Business Group for Philips Sonicare will be our presenter. Participants will engage in discussion on timely topics associated with soda/sports drink consumption, eating disorders, obesity and substance abuse. Examining high-risk behaviors and gender differences prepare the dental professional to initiate conversations that will provide guidance with the health decisions that face that generation today.

** This course is appropriate for the entire dental staff, so dentists and other staff are invited to attend.

I am also attaching the flyer that I worked on so you could use something similar there if you would like. As soon as I have a place for the February meeting, I will send that to you. The picture that I attached is our component’s presentation of a monetary gift to Stanley Satterfield, DMD for use at the Mercy Health Clinic in Athens. The gift was made at our April 2010 meeting. The other pic is a more flattering one of myself—I tried to crop it but couldn’t get it to save like that…maybe you know how to do it. Thanks Kris!
