Remote Area Medical
April 25, 2008

Greetings!

"On February 5, 2008 at approximately 10:20pm an EF3 tornado touched down in Lafayette, TN and stayed on the ground with a width of approximately 3/4 mile and traveled for nearly 21 miles crossing the county in a northeastern direction. The county was devastated by the twister and a total of 12 people were confirmed dead. Macon County is not equipped with tornado warning sirens; and despite the efforts of the local news media and the National Weather Service many residents were unprepared." (source: Wikipedia)

Remote Area Medical is responding to this disaster by bringing RAM services to Macon County Junior High School in Lafayette, TN, for the weekend of May 3-4, 2008.  (Lafayette is northeast of Nashville in central Tennessee.)  We are in DESPERATE need of volunteer eye doctors, dentists, and supporting professions such as opticians, refractionists, dental assistants and dental hygienists.  If you know anyone who practices any of these professions and is currently licensed in ANY STATE in the United States, please invite them to come to Macon County, TN, to provide their services to these people who have so recently undergone such devastation.

If you or someone you know can respond to this need, please contact Ron Brewer or Stan Brock at RAM headquarters by telephone at 865-579-1530 or by email to ronbrewer@ramusa.org or stanbrock@ramusa.org.

Sincerely,
